Justice for Elijah McClain

Justice for Elijah McClain

“I can’t breathe. I have my ID right here. My name is Elijah McClain. That’s my house. I was just going home. I’m an introvert. I’m just different. That’s all. I’m so sorry. I have no gun. I don’t do that stuff. I don’t do any fighting. Why are you attacking me? I don’t even kill flies! I don’t eat meat! But I don’t judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better. I will do it. I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity. I’ll do it. You all are phenomenal. You are beautiful. And I love you. Try to forgive me. I am a mood Gemini. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Ow, that really hurt. You are all very strong. Team work makes the dream work…(crying)..oh I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to do that. I just can’t breathe correctly (proceeds to vomit from the pressure to his chest and neck)”

Elijah McClain was a kind and gentle 23 year old who worked as a massage therapist in Aurora, CO. On his lunch breaks from work, Elijah would go to the animal shelters and play violin for the animals because he thought that they were lonely in their cages and thought that the music would calm them. He was quirky, a pacifist, a vegetarian, enjoyed running, and known to put a smile on everyone’s face.

In August 2019, Elijah went to the gas station to buy some iced tea for himself and his cousins. Because he suffered from anemia, a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry enough oxygen to your body’s tissues, he would often wear a ski/ runner mask over his face to stay warm. On his way home, the Aurora Police department were called to reports of a “suspicious man”, likely due to Elijah wearing his mask for warmth and dancing to the music in his headphones. All Elijah was doing was WALKING HOME.

Warning for violent description:

Elijah was apprehended by a group of three cops, despite committing NO crime and being unarmed. A struggle occurred, and he was held in a very dangerous carotid hold around his neck while he cried for help, cried out that he couldn’t breathe, cried out that he was nonviolent and couldn’t even kill a fly, and was repeatedly throwing up. Elijah weighed a mere 140 pounds. You can hear on the audio footage, an officer instructing another the move their body camera out of view. Another threatened to “call in a dog to bite him, if he (Elijah) moved again”. While 3 Aurora Police Dept officers violently restrained him they called Aurora Fire Dept, who injected him with ketamine even tho he was already cuffed, a drug used to tranquilize horses or in surgeries while properly supervised by anesthesiologist. He went into cardiac arrest , slipped into a coma, and his family was advised to take him off life support 6 days later. As a result of this encounter, Elijah passed away at the age of 23.The officers have STILL NOT been charged in taking Elijah’s life. Elijah’s voice has been taken from him, so it is up to US to be his voice. We must DEMAND JUSTICE for Elijah.”

  1. So much useless killing. It isn’t a new thing. A few years ago. Police officers shot into a house. Killed a baby. The rule are simple in Detroit, no car chases and no shooting into houses. Maybe more training is needed. Elijah and the family in my prayers.

    • You’re right, it isn’t new – which is why what’s blatantly happening now is almost unbelievable. We won’t accomplish anything without a complete justice system cleanup. Which I think does rely on leadership enforcing education / training, instead of authoritative power and aggression. The system is broken and corrupt from the ground to the top. I’m at a loss for words at what’s going on, it’s absolutely disgusting. And here we are today – there are a few others from Kenosha, Wisconsin that can be added to your prayers

      • It never stopped. Here in Detroit. Kid killing kid. Men killing men. Many active wars. Drugged-up people and 114 police officers killed this year. How many violence actions happen to women daily? Women being stolen, used and killed on USA border. Being a police officer is dangerous position. When I was young. 1200 kids die a year in Detroit to violence. We are the problem. Two week ago, 12 year boy with 11 seven years old. Shot gun and killed a boy. Where is the parent? Kenosha, Wisconsin. Destroying your city is like shooting yourself in the foot for the cause of anti-war. Remember the sit-down strikes, the no working strikes and the peaceful demonstrations. Riot, you destroy property of people who worked a lifetime. I lived in the city of Detroit. The riot killed off the city of Detroit. A eye for eye world. Everyone will lose. Follow the example of Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Does one death mean, you can ruin the life of many?? Demonstrate by voting, supporting causes and not destroying your city. This is your city and home. Look-up spouse abuse and killing? Hunger. Police officer can be good people or bad people. Bad and good people in this world. When everyone is wrong. No-one will win and the businesses destroyed are the losers. Be the cop for one day. You learn the dirty side of life. I was a soldier and I did many food, water and medicine missions. I carry a rifle and a pistol. I used to protect people. Like a police officer. I did not know what was coming at me. If a police officer does something wrong. Send to jail. Same as a criminal need to go. Burning and riots. Just people seeking profit in the mist of confusion. I wrote of two woman who killed themselves in the welfare office. They didn’t receive help. Killed their children and themselves. Who is blame for this? Everyone. We are broke. Raise your children properly, work, don’t expect free money. I been to many places without police forces. Military run the government and if you want violence. Allow the military to run your system. USA is 244 years old and I would live here over any place. I am Ojibwa, Mexican and white. I don’t cry for the past, I fix the future. I raised my children to work hard, education and be successful. The justice justice need to be fixed and the people too. If you burn down your house, where do you live, shop and survive?
